Newfound Links and Info – Week 1

Hello WordPress world and beyond! I decided to add some stability to the blog and offer the readers a bit more usable content. I’ll start with posting a weekly blog that offers up some interesting blogs that I have read or websites I run across over the past week and post them for everyone to explore. I’ll give my two cents and then let you take it from there.

I will attempt to group them in regular categories. I’m hoping to use the same category types in each post for consistency and to make it easy for you to search through the tags to find only the content you are looking for.

I will note that the information will probably be more useful to the nubies as this is the stage that I am in right now. I really hope to save everyone some time by listing only information that I feel is useful at this early stage of the game without being overwhelming.

So without further delay, here are this week’s selections (drum roll please!)…

EVENT

WORDCAMP – OK ALL YOU YELLA BELLIES GET YOUR HIKING BOOTS ON WERE GOING FOR 20 MILE HIKE….no, no…not that kind of camp. If you are a WordPress junkie or just want to be in the know about this rapidly growing blogging community than I suggest a visit to WORDCAMP. Direct from there website “WordCamp is a conference type of event that focuses squarely on everything WordPress. Everyone from casual end users all the way up to core developers show up to these events. These events are usually highlighted by speeches or keynotes by various people.” Go ahead have a look. You can leave the bug spray at home!

WEBSITES

43Things– This is a goal setting and sharing website that allows you to also see what goals other people are setting for themselves. This site, aside from allowing you to tell the world your goals out loud-which, by the way, is a good way to maybe light a fire under your butt-can be a great resource for finding out what the HOT trends are at the moment. I went to the site today and clicked on the most popular goals and found ‘Lose Weight’ and ‘Stop Procrastinating’ to be in the top two. Needless to say that weight loss products and ‘How To’ guides on getting things done are going to be hot ticket items. You can definitely add this site to your tool box for researching niche markets and hot internet buzz items. So go on now….get started writing that ‘How To’ E-book!!!

BlipTV – Similar to YouTube in that it allows sharing of video content. Drastically different in that Blip.TV seems to cater more to the serious videobloggers, Internet TV producers and podcasters. The website is clean and very easy to navigate and each user is given a unique Internet station name, chosen by the user, upon Sign Up. Check out their site for all the specifics. I think all those budding producers and directors should definitely give it a try!

Tubemogul – If you are constantly loading your video content to a host of sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Vidder, MySpace and the like then you know how time consuming the process can be. This is where Tubemogul can help. Tubemogul allows user to upload their content to up to 12 sites, simultaneously. In addition, and their most unique and valuable feature is their built in analytics which allows you to track stats for all of these sites in one place, saving you a lot of time.

PORTALS

NetVibes – Those of you familiar with iGoogle will find this portal very much the same layout. You can design the content based on your location and add in feeds from your favorite blogs, news arenas, social networking sites, etc. and, once it gets set as your default homepage, gives you a one stop location to all of your most viewed content. I personally found it very similar to the iGoogle portal and since I am already familiar with that interface and spent all that time designing it, I don’t think I will be changing up anytime soon. If you haven’t really done anything with your iGoogle but like the idea then definitely check out NetVibes.

BLOG

10 Golden Rules Internet Marketing Strategy Blog – This is definitely one of my top blogs of late. I first became a fan of Jay Berkowitz though his podcast and have since been a devout follower of his blog. Jay and his team of contributors always offer up fresh new content that is very easy to understand. I highly recommend this blog to anyone interested in Internet Marketing.

PODCAST

Internet Business Mastery – If I could recommend just one Podcast to the nubies of Internet Marketing this would be the one. IBM has become my most widely used resource for learning about Internet Marketing, Social Media, Podcasting, Affiliate Marketing, and Membership Sites. Sterling and Jay give their listeners a mix of entertainment, education, and integrity. Everything these two guys put out is genuine and can be applied almost immediately to most any business. I highly recommend this one to every one.

Well, that’s it for this week! I hope you will give me some feedback on what you liked (or disliked-I’m thick skinned, I can take it!).

Thanks for stopping by!

FFF !?

Ok so all morning I’ve been trying to figure out why all my text was coming up white in my blog and yet all my links were visible. Any HTML of CSS 101 student could have told me to check the FONT color listed. Should have been SO OBVIOUS but being as how I was using a WordPress template I didn’t understand how it could have been changed in the first place. I did, however, attempt to change my style sheet yesterday (darn, my own worst enemy again!) so I definitely must have changed something during that process.

Ah well, lesson learned. Change #FFF to #000 and I’m good to go! FINALLY!
